Hamburg – Living. Loving. Hamburg.

Hamburg a double bead in one heart the most beautiful the number one hear the rhythm offered wrong swim through a streets dive into a call drift with a tithe restless for more above me the Sun below me the moon the constant in motion the present of soon we know where we’ve come from our destination is clear and we keep our word in faith northern fear city life light and lit up we work on ourselves we never give up the wind in our sails land inside the sword on our tongue our liver is might so give me the old give me the new feel like Oh feel like who you can call us classical modern or retro as long as you never considers just so-so as somewhere between the grunge and shine is a people city a place you can’t define second nature for the many flags on a mast northern sphere first think second speak last be part of the game because live near the air never stays the same

Hamburg, Germany: HafenCity

Hamburg 60 miles from the North Sea on the Elbe River has long been a vital port it’s waterfront is designed to accommodate the Elba’s 13-foot types and in anticipation of a rising sea level and potentially devastating storm surges miles of embankments have recently been fortified along with making the city safer this stretch comes with a design element that gives Hamburg a delightful new park like stretch of harbor front long a busy ferry terminal this floating dock is now a thriving tourist zone from here with the aroma of pickled herring and french fries you can enjoy the harbor and the energy of the city’s port for German Americans Hamburg has a special meaning because their ancestors likely sailed from this Harbor between 1850 and 1930 millions of Germans emigrated to the United States from right here the port has always been a central feature of Hamburg it evolves and grows with the city’s needs and with changes in shipping technology the vast Spicer shot or warehouse city was originally a seemingly endless grid of Riverside warehouses today these buildings once filled with cotton rubber and tobacco house engaging museums offices and hip restaurants while those venerable warehouses survived much of hamburg’s old port was abandoned when the shipping industry moved to a larger and more modern port nearby then a generation ago the city realized that what had become a derelict industrial wasteland was potentially prime real estate the result – city a huge urban development project with this new green and integrated urban center downtown Hamburg became about 40% bigger and once again the city faces its River the re-energized district seems a city in itself mixing its maritime heritage with striking modern architecture worked into the plan are both high-end condos and affordable subsidized housing Hamburg has created a healthy mix of business culture and leisure convenient for the modern citizen without a car today city planners from around Europe look to Hamburg for inspiration in designing integrated urban centers the centerpiece of Hotham city is the striking Elbphilharmonie a combination concert hall public plaza hotel and apartment complex it’s daring design and huge size fit and wealth the massive scale of the surrounding port and when approached by water it resembles the looming prow of the steamer ships that first put Hamburg on the world map an unforgettable capper to a hamburg visit is its harbor tour the best of its kind in Europe you’ll see plenty of Hamburg’s bold new architecture as well as its more established beach communities lined with mansions but mostly the hour-long cruise get you up close to Hamburg shipping industry all those enormous container ships towering cranes and dry docks accommodating 12,000 vessels a year its Europe’s second busiest harbour and earns the tagline Europe’s gateway to the world and the world’s gateway to Europe

Hamburg – a proud merchant city with history and vision

Join in on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with #germany25reunified and http://www.germany.travel/en/germany-reunified/25-perspectives/25-perspectives.html

Gateway to the world. The jewel of the north. The biggest sea port in Germany. It’s hard to describe Hamburg without using superlatives. This world city on the Elbe combines a global mindset with mercantile tradition. Over the last 25 years, the city’s appeal has been boosted even further by impressive urban development. With HafenCity, the biggest inner-city regeneration project in Europe, Hamburg is setting a high standard for the future of urban centres.

Your Weekend in HAMBURG – The perfect trip

welcome to your weekend in Hamburg this city is a jack-of-all-trades it derives its special appeal from its contrasts you can be feeding seagulls by the owl stir one moment and staring at eccentric fish salesmen on the Elbe the next that’s Hamburg here water is the common denominator this city is home to squatters individualists s– architects creative types and on this weekend of course you it’s 1:00 p.m. and you’re checking into the side hotel located very close to the fancy young French D this hotel gives you lots of design for your money it was conceived by Matteo tune so well in fact that design and comfort enhance each other perfectly start off by discovering the city center from your hotel feed the seagulls or watch the elegant hamburgers are shopping did you know that Hamburg has more department stores than any other German city we are taking you away from the downtown shops which are largely interchangeable and after sankt Georg st. George today life here is quite carefree santiago’s to be a rather uninviting place but today it’s famed for its diversity it’s hip gay and multicultural the area around the Langer hier has a lot to offer including the motor lapped over 70 businesses from all over Germany supply them were to land with delicious food a wonderful place to visit for a coffee or some gossip or to stack up on your domestic comestibles behind all of this there’s a lot of passionate commitment and also a philosophy young I’m slowing aha smitten our slogan made in Germany means that we try to work with German family-run manufacturers in order to act responsibly in an ecological sense for Jam for instance why should the fruit come from New Zealand and be processed in New York and cross the whole ocean that’s why we try to work with local food producers instead and leave with a malefactor on Sullivan the fun Splashin here are Hamburg speciality remember to buy some and eat them right away also in sankt georg is the couples x and x ik inside an old machine factory there are 12 workshops studios and a vegetarian restaurant here you can admire crafts you probably thought were long extinct at heya Fink’s for instance he makes fountain pens for prices of 800 euro and arc then again they contain not only ink but a lot of hard work and above all affection expulsion and through I do develop a relationship with my pins that I’m really passionate about this work is great if they’re youthful love letters for instance but I’m also plead if they end up in good hands and give people pleasure later that’s my reward octa but because making a fountain pen by hand the way I do we can sometimes be pretty hard work cannot abide 6:00 p.m. cent michael’s church the symbol of the city is referred to affectionately by hamburgers as mission the church burned to the ground twice in its history and was last rebuilt in the early 20th century with the help of donations 449 steps or an elevator which would be boring take you up to the observation platform there’s no nicer way of ending your Friday evening you you good morning it’s 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the side a genuine Hamburg breakfast awaits you shrimps first thing in the morning are all part of it Plus excellent tea now you go to a strength up it’s after the shunter quarter in the old days the shun sir was run down a cheap home for hippies and artists the base is still alternative multicultural and creative today the neighborhood known as Keats still gets mentioned on the news because of the regular May riot but the shunter is also a yuppie district and not everyone is happy about that it’s become chic to live in the Shan sir right at the heart of the Shanter in a former slaughterhouse is Vaughn called tours Exxon’s ethic even if you can’t just pick something up and walk off with it merely admiring the items here is a lot of fun to Scandinavian design by legends such as Alvar Aalto is attractively presented here the classics are being produced again today in limited numbers and some of them can only be found here a few bus stops further on the bunch alarm in Altona bonza is the hamburg word for bomba or hard candy here you can watch them being made the team at the Bantul Arden keeps coming up with new and unusual creations the testers seem to like them and this place is a feast for the eye anyway one bag of sweets and a few minutes later you’ve reached the dye store halls two former market halls have been converted into an exhibition centre for contemporary art and photography it’s 7:00 p.m. and tonight you’re dining at the Vienna since you can’t make reservations here waiting at the bar with a smaller pair atif is an essential part of the evening not a bad one for that matter once you’re seated comfortably expect food that is always surprising never to hoity-toity but down-to-earth and always incredibly delicious this is a place to spend hours sitting back just reveling in the atmosphere that’s right you can’t skip that part once you’re in Hamburg sankt pauli by night lots of bare skin behind flashy neon lights the demi-monde along with the people who like to stare at it congregate around the Reeperbahn but st. Pauli is also a place of culture the Schmitz Tivoli is a true legend a Hamburg institution inside a former brewery the successful musical hi sir eka is a big hit at the Tivoli it had a six-year run here and over half a million people have seen it and also enjoyed an occasional beer while doing so 50 actors play and sing around the high sir eka snack stand here you learn something about the red-light district you happen to be in right now Sunday morning 9:00 a.m. and we’ve let you lie in the fish market opened a lot earlier this morning of course they’re a great fish here what else but the people selling them are the real attraction here one more eccentric man the next and the fish crosses the counters in shovel Falls very close to the fish market is Harry’s – bizarre a crazy place 20 rooms packed full of things brought here by boat from all over the world Old Harry was a sailor who brought items from his travels and used to sell them here Harry is reputed to have said I’ve got eighty one thousand two hundred and eighty three different things here if you don’t believe me count them the customers are parries half and bizarre include film production companies that rent the old prop and also forgetful travelers but under now and then we get people who’ve forgotten to buy things for their relatives so they get them here in standing as wounded and yep and last but not least we strongly recommend the view of Hamburg from the water get a bit of ulster wind in your hair and see you for your next weekend bucks total cool – purrs and is under scandal totals – duze I – their thing and staff of Tim de Tunis Turner’s Philippe Tiffany tutors with the fucking fish three now Smithfield fear the pet industry funding this hotel to get one distressed as I can get – indeed to do this they muffin you
